New Mr. Olympia crowned!

There’s a new IFBB Mr. Olympia!
Dexter Jackson was crowned the new Mr. Olympia last night in Las Vegas, defeating 2 time winner Jay Cutler. This is HUGE for a couple reasons.
First, to de-throne a Mr. Olympia is extremely hard. They have an advantage from the start as they automatically have the judges eye. So you have to really prove to the judges you are better. Last year, Jay was off and Victor almost beat him. This year he seemed sharper, but his symmetry seemed a little off and things just didn’t flow like usual. Dexter was spot-on like always and it was enough to get him the win!
The second significant thing about this is the fact that Dextor is not a 250+ mass monster. He is the first winner in a long time, that isn’t one of the “big freaks”. Don’t get me wrong, Dexter is a HUGE man at 5′6″ and 233, but has classic lines, a tiny waist and is closer to 200 than 300. In my opinion, hopefully this is a sign that the IFBB is going towards a more refined package verses thick waisted mass monsters. Time will tell!
Mr. Olympia top 6 2008
1. Dexter Jackson
2. Jay Cutler
3. Phil Heath
4. Dennis Wolf
5. Toney Freeman (who’s 42 years old by the way!)
6. Melvin Anthony
Hitting the squat rack

This morning maxed out on squats in the Full Potential Training studio! First time doing this in a long time. Warmed up real well, then blasted through each set. Just like the bench press, doing a bodybuilding squat and a powerlifting squat are two totally different things.
The bodybuilding squat emphasizes the quads for maximum development. Typically a more narrow stance with the bar high on the shoulders. For powerlifting the bar is usually lower, legs wider to maximize hip power for driving the weight up. Most wear knee wraps too to protect and add some spring in the bottom of the squat. I’m excited to start working on this and bring it up so I can do a full powerlifting meet.
This should increase rapidly, as the technique is new, plus I’m in a cutting cycle to reduce some bodyfat. Plus I started taking Kre-Alkalyn this week, which I’ve been off of for a month. Here’s how it went this morning:
135×12 (2 sets, warming up)
185×8
225×3
275×2
315×1
345×1 (felt a little off here so did it again)
345×1 (solid)
350×1
Was happy with this, so stopped and will look to improve on this number. Had to finish up to open up Nutri-Sport, then this afternoon headed to Council Bluffs for the NANBF Bluffs Classic to cheer my wife Mandee on in the Figure and Bodybuilding classes! -Ryan
Ready to squat!

Planning on doing some HEAVY squats on Saturday and since I did maximum bench on Saturday, yesterday I did a growth day for chest, delts and arms. Focused on more reps and squeezing the blood into the muscle. Worked awesome! Took a shower afterwards and seriously had trouble shaving cause my arms were so pumped up!! Did some cardio/core work with the bodysculpt class this morning, and getting mentally prepared for what Saturday is going to bring!
