Nutri-Sport Training Tip: Cable pull through

March 20, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

The “posterior chain” is the muscle groups that make up the back side of the body (hamstrings, glutes, low back).  Often times this is an area of weakness and can lead to injuries.

In the video below, Mike Beiter demonstrates the cable pull through, which is a great exercise to strengthen this area, not too mention a great shaping exercise for the glutes.

Put this exercise in your program during your next leg or back session.

Next time you want to kick up your fat loss and performance up a notch, begin incorporating this in your cardio routine.

Lunges are a great exercise for the legs, especially targeting the glutes. In this video, Head Trainer Tasha Armstrong demonstrates a version with the smith machine. For even more glute stimulation, elevate your front leg to get a more intense stretch.

We recommend 3-4 sets of 8-14 reps, for optimal muscle stimulation.

In this video, Nutri-Sport owner Ryan Irwin demonstrates glute/ham raises in the Full Potential studio. These are a great exercise to strengthen the hamstrings and glutes. It is very difficult -as you can tell in the video ;-) , so having either a partner or holding a bar in front is helpful to get you out of the bottom position. You can see in this video that the unassisted reps are a little sloppy, but with help, a full range of motion is achieved on the second half of the set. A great aspect of this exercise is that it puts little pressure on the lower back. You can do these on leg day, 2-3 sets of 8-12.
