Whats new???    

 

New location in Altoona opening soon!

 

We have been in Lakeside Fitness in Pleasant Hill Since November and are excited to announce the move to the City of Altoona!!   

 

Construction has begun at our new location (1003 8th St SW, Suite K), which is on the North side of 8th st SW, next to Hairy’s Day Spa.  While construction continues, we are still open for business in the East entrance at Lakeside Fitness (4400 E. University Ave Ste B).  

 

 

 

New format for our small group training

Next session starts Tues, Sept 6th!
We have been holding our Bodyscultping sessions for many years now and have had countless clients utilize our program to get some amazing results!  In fact, we boast about an 85% retention rate.  Most of our clients use this as their exclusive training protocol.  Being that it really is more like personal training than group training, we have switched the sessions into a monthly format (beginning this month).  For $142 + tax, you get 4 sessions per week (Mon-Sat) at either 5 or 6 AM, 7 or 8 AM, noon or 7 PM.  As always, we strive to help you make the most of your training both in and outside of the studio by monitoring your nutrition and watching your progress.  Groups are at most 10 clients per session so you don’t get lost in a crowd.  If you want in, let us know!

Monday Madness is TUESDAY, Sept 6th due to Monday (Labor Day) being a holiday, where you save 15% off our already great low prices. A quick note about our special: we don’t gouge our customers with high price margins (as we also have personal training and nutrition coaching services as well) so we can’t do specials like buy one, get one, or 1/2 price, but our normal prices are most retailers sale prices.  That being said, 15% off our prices are often like 50% off other retail prices!  As always, we will be handing out samples and this is the day to stock up on whatever you need or try something new to shake up your supplement program with one of our proven stacks.

Here’s a couple examples of results from our Bodysculpting program:

Also, in her first month, Deanna has lost 15lbs off the scale, lowered her bodyfat by 7%, and lost inches (including 4″ off waist!)  However, she is continuing her success and is down 100lbs and still going strong!!

Since beginning, Bill has gone from 20% to 10% bodyfat, lost 8″ on his waist, and 32lbs off the scale.

Aquamassage
This is an incredible way to get a quick, non-invasive, therapeutic massage.  What looks like a tanning bed is actually a chamber that has 40 high-pressure jets that go from your feet to your neck pulsating heated water.  You don’t get wet though and are fully dressed.  There is a sheath between you and the water, so you just lay there, relax and enjoy!  A great pick-me-up over lunch, after workouts, or as a maintenance in between intense deep tissue work.  Only $1.00 per minute it is a great way to treat yourself (or someone you know).  Swing in and try it out!

Team Nutri-Sport earned 2nd place at the Iowa State Fair powerlifting meet on Aug 20th.  Great performances by many lifters and a blast as always!  Nutri-Sport is proud to sponsor this event and if you are looking to try powerlifting out, this is one of the best meets to do it at!  Athletes on the team included:  Dan Connett, Jerry Rodriguez, Maurio Coleman, Eric Green and Nick Van Patten.

Kirill:  In doing nutrition/training coaching with us, in his first month, he dropped 4% bodyfat, has lost an inch in his waist, gained an inch on his chest, added 3/8″ on each arm and greatly increased overall strength.

Q.  What are testosterone boosters?

A.  Testosterone is the male hormone that controls the male sex characteristics, including stimulating muscle mass and strength.  As we age, this production is lowered.  Supplements that can increase these levels are classified as natural boosters (such as the D-Aspartic Acid) or pro-hormones.  We carry both but strongly recommend the natural route as it works with the body and the side effects aren’t there.  Also, with a PH, results are more temporary, plus is a banned substance by most athletic associations.

Nutri-Sport East Grand Opening/Ribbon cutting Friday, April 29th!!


The bells are shined and the whistles are ready for our big grand opening!!  Please come out and join us at our new Pleasant Hill location for free food, supplement samples, along with some crazy supplement deals and fun!

We are pleased to announce that we are now open in Pleasant Hill! The address is 4400 East University Suite B in Pleasant Hill. GPLC from Primaforce:

This is short for glycine propionyl-L-carnitine hcl which is proven to boost nitric oxide production, increase blood flow to muscles, is a great anti-oxidant and improves performance.  It is recommended to mix 4 grams with your pre-workout formula and taken prior to your workouts.  It is a bit tart, so be ready for that and some awesome training sessions!

Amino Energy from Optimum Nutrition: New from Optimum Nutrition (and on special all month at Nutri-Sport) is this blend of essential amino acids combined with energy providing elements such as beta alanine and nitric oxide enhancers.  Increase brain function, energy and control appetite, its a win/win.

Isolate Whey by Cytosport: While attending the Arnold Expo, one of the main purposes is to find new products to bring in.  We tried the new Isolate Whey from Cytosport and it is amazing!  Tastes great and is 100% isolate, no soy or other proteins.  We have orange, choc or vanilla available.

Q. What is the best thing for building muscle?

A. The first thing we always recommend is to make sure you are taking a good multi-vitamin and Omega 3.  After that, having the proper recovery shake to help your body repair your muscle tissue is crucial, this is the most important meal of the day.  Once those are in place, additional things like sipping on BCAA’s and adding creatine are good as well.  Of course, keep a training log so you can make sure you are progressing in your workouts.

Nutri-Sport East open for business!!

Since 2003 we have been Des Moines and central Iowa’s authority for sports nutrition products.  Being a local and independently owned business, we have primarily relied on word-of-mouth from our loyal customers to grow.

We are pleased to announce that we are now open in Pleasant Hill! The address is 4400 East University Suite B in Pleasant Hill. New evening Bodysculpting workout session added at Nutri-Sport Clive

As hundreds of clients have experienced, we have been offering Bodysculpting workouts at Nutri-Sport for a few years now.  We are extremely excited to be able to bring back an evening session time slot beginning February 14th!

Bodysculpting is unlike any of the other “fitness challenges” out there.  It really is more like personal training rather than group fitness.  As the video below shows, it is small groups (no more than 10 people) and our trainers (who have college degrees in health plus certifications) lead the workouts.  The training sessions are always different, focusing on all aspects of fitness to make it fun, challenging, but most important, effective on helping you look and feel your absolute best!

We want this to be a lifestyle change so one of the areas of focus are nutrition as well.  At the beginning of the program, we educate participants what, when and why they should be eating.  Throughout the 9 week program, we monitor their nutrition and make sure results are being achieved.

The next sessions begin on February 14th. The evening session is Tuesday/Thursday at 6:30 PM and Saturday morning at 7 or 8 AM. The morning sessions is Monday/Wednesday/Friday at either 5 or 6 AM, plus Saturday morning. There is also a noon session on Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Cost on the evening 9-week session is $225, the morning and noon session is $299.

Bodysculpting results, what it’s all about!

Any chance we get to brag up our clients we absolutely do!

We have mentioned Dee before but she has continued to progress.  Since beginning our Bodysculpting program in March she has lost 78 pounds and reduced her bodyfat from 32.7% to 13.8%.  Dee has also lost 27.75 inches around her hips and waist, reduced her thighs by 11 inches total.

In addition to making physical changes, her diet is improved considerably and we are working with her to continue to increase her metabolism and monitoring her intake with food logs.

We’ve discussed before how critical post workout nutrition is.  Here is a new product that has everything you want in a post workout formula.  By supplying 30 grams of protein, 23 grams of carbs, creatine and amino acids, you get what you need to grow and get stronger without a big whopping dose of carbs to gain bodyfat.  If you’re pressed for time, want to get/stay lean but optimize recovery, this is for you!

Training tip: Occlusion
A new and break through method of training is called occlusion training.  The basis behind it is limiting the blood flow during an exercise.  Studies demonstrate that leg training is most effective for this.  By creating this environment, the muscles are more stimulated to grow, but you don’t have to use as much weight or put as much stress on the body (great for injuries or deloading phases).  Contact one of our certified trainers to help you come back quicker from an injury and not lose progress.

Nutrition tip: Convenience
Having convenient options is important to hit your nutrition.  One way to do this is to make large amounts of good food that you can scoop out of.  A great carb source is mashed yams.  Peel yams, cut into sections and boil till tender.  Mash w/beater and then weigh out portions as needed (2.5 oz is 20 grams carbs).  Mix in your protein (esp great with cinnamon roll or vanilla cinnamon whey), add it to veggies, lots of options. Supplement tip: Check your foundation
Often times individuals get too wrapped up with what’s the newest, latest/greatest or what the other person in the gym is using.  However they skip the critical beginning and look at their foundation.  Anyone, no matter what their goals are, should have the fundamentals in place.  This consists of protein (either fast/slow/timed release depending on goals), multi-vitamin (appropriate to their age/goals) and essential fatty acids (omegas).  From there, one can branch off and get specific.  Come in and one of our experts can help you design a supplement program that meets your needs and fits your budget.

Recipe: Sweet potato pancakes
Awesome breakfast!!  Use the sweet potatoes discussed earlier.

Take 1-2 scoops of vanilla whey, 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 2 Tbsp oatmeal, 4 oz mashed yam and 1/2 cup of liquid egg whites (or 3 egg whites).  Mix in a bowl and pour 1/8 cup amounts onto hot skillet, cook as you would a pancake.  Serve plain or with peanut butter or sugar free syrup on top!

Aquamassage
This is an incredible way to get a quick, non-invasive, therapeutic massage.  What looks like a tanning bed is actually a chamber that has 40 high-pressure jets that go from your feet to your neck pulsating heated water.  You don’t get wet though and are fully dressed.  There is a sheath between you and the water, so you just lay there, relax and enjoy!  A great pick-me-up over lunch, after workouts, or as a maintenance in between intense deep tissue work.  Only $1.00 per minute it is a great way to treat yourself (or someone you know).  Swing in and try it out!

Training tip: Get a few more at the end
If you happen to be one of those individuals who train solo (or just want a bit more from your workout) this technique is for you.  On your last set of a given exercise, go to failure and when you can’t complete a full repetition, go into the stretched position.  From here, do 3-6 partial reps to get a little more stimulus on the muscle before you set the weights down.  Contact one of our certified trainers to help you come back quicker from an injury and not lose progress.

Nutrition tip: Insulin/blood sugar control
The primary goal of losing bodyfat is to create a calorie deficit.  However, in addition to that is to control your blood sugar and insulin levels.  Insulin is your “storage” hormone.  By increasing your blood sugar and raising insulin, you get out of fat burning mode at the least, or start storing fat.  By eating the proper foods and/or combinations, plus timing and supplementation, you can control your insulin naturally for healthy and consistent fat loss. Recipe: Casein Pudding pops
This is an AMAZING recipe and perfect for summer!!  If you like Jell-o pudding pops, you gotta try this!!!  Slow digesting too, great for before bed or to curb your appetite (or sweet tooth) during the day.

Take 1 scoop of casein and a 1/2 scoop of whey (we recommend chocolate).  Mix in a bowl and add enough water to make a little thinner than pudding (so it’s pourable).  Pour the protein into pudding pop molds, add a handle, and freeze overnight.  Once they are frozen, simply run under hot water to get them out of molds, and enjoy!!!

Bodysculpting results and testimonial

They say that pictures say a thousand words, well, one of our recent participants not only has some impressive pictures show her results from the 9-week Bodysculpting program, but also tells a great story!

Deanna just finished up her first 9 week Bodysculpting session at our Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat 6 AM time.  She did amazingly and nailed it on all fronts, attendance, nutrition and workouts.  In 9 weeks, Deanna lost over 15 inches around her waist/hips and lost over 7 inches in her arms/thighs.  Her bodyfat went down 9.7% and she lost over 33 pounds according to the scale!

Below are the before and after pictures, but read her story in her own words below that.

As a mother of 2 children (5 &3 yrs old) I had constantly struggled with my weight and appearance for years.  When I joined Nutri-Sport’s 9 week Bodysculpting challenge I was at a point of desperation. Due to our family’s financial situation I knew I could only afford to take this class once throughout the year and from the get go I decided to make the most of my time there.  I viewed this as an opportunity to invest in myself and my health.
At the start of the program I felt a bit out of place. Most of the people in my class had better conditioning and overall they were in better shape than I was.  As I disciplined myself,  the constant support and drive of the trainers within the program helped me realize just how much I could accomplish.  As my body got better and the results became more apparent I pushed myself harder than I have ever done before,  The staff helped answer any and all questions I could possibly think of asking (and trust me they were a lot!).  Anything from what to eat, when to eat it, what supplements would help me achieve my goals faster, and how to maintain an overall sense of balance within the program. Maintaining discipline in my eating habits was crucial to my results. The trainers also helped me understand how to continue getting results even though I no longer was able to continue the challenge with them.
I won’t lie and say that it was an easy adjustment to make for myself.  Most,  if not all of my habits changed as I accepted the challenge.  Anywhere from my eating habits, my discipline as a person, and even my sleeping habits.  The trainers not only work with you in accomplishing your goals, but they also believe in you which makes them even more amicable and trustworthy.  You do feel challenged by the workouts, you certainly feel challenged by the trainers (whose constant push is necessary, at least on my case), you also feel challenged by the people within your class in a way that it is a healthy competition to give your best every time you are there. But most importantly it is a challenge to yourself.  To know that the more you apply yourself, and the more you discipline yourself the better results you get.  To challenge yourself to change your habits and put yourself to the test and not only know but also see the results of your work and their guidance it is the most rewarding experience I can honestly say I have ever had!
