Whats new???

New format for our small group training


We have been holding our Bodyscultping sessions for many years now and have had countless clients utilize our program to get some amazing results!  In fact, we boast about an 85% retention rate.  Most of our clients use this as their exclusive training protocol.  Being that it really is more like personal training than group training, we have switched the sessions into a monthly format (beginning this month).  For $150, you get 4 sessions per week at either 5 or 6 AM, noon or 7 PM.  As always, we strive to help you make the most of your training both in and outside of the studio by monitoring your nutrition and watching your progress.  Groups are at most 10 clients per session so you don’t get lost in a crowd.  If you want in, let us know!

Monday Madness is Mon, July 11th,where you save 15% off our already great low prices. Most know the importance of protein in their diet but carbs are essential as well.  While it is easy to get them into our diet (carbs) having an efficient source to properly restore muscle glycogen post workout is critical. Carb Slam is exactly this, an unflavored waxy maize that can easily be added to your protein post workout that doesn’t effect the taste or texture.  Carb Slam can also be used pre-workout for some extra fuel for your fire if your tank is low!

Green Magnitude creatine from Controlled Labs:

Here’s a couple examples of results from our Bodysculpting program:

Also, in her first month, Deanna has lost 15lbs off the scale, lowered her bodyfat by 7%, and lost inches (including 4″ off waist!)  However, she is continuing her success and is down 100lbs and still going strong!!

Aquamassage
This is an incredible way to get a quick, non-invasive, therapeutic massage.  What looks like a tanning bed is actually a chamber that has 40 high-pressure jets that go from your feet to your neck pulsating heated water.  You don’t get wet though and are fully dressed.  There is a sheath between you and the water, so you just lay there, relax and enjoy!  A great pick-me-up over lunch, after workouts, or as a maintenance in between intense deep tissue work.  Only $1.00 per minute it is a great way to treat yourself (or someone you know).  Swing in and try it out!

Q. Do I take carbs after workouts even if it’s in the evening?

 

A. Absolutely.  If you look at your nutrition intake, two of your largest meals should be before and after your workout (so shame-shame if you don’t eat anything in the AM before you hit the weights).   Your body needs to restore glycogen and recover after an intense workout no matter what time of day it is.

Supplement research: Forskolin for fat loss

Looking for a new way to lose fat without getting jacked up on stimulants? Then Forskolin 50 by Primaforce is a great option to help burn stubborn bodyfat. Forskolin is a natural herb that is derived from the plant, Coleus forskohli.

Forskolin has been shown to decrease body fat by stimulating the enzyme adenylate cyclase, which results in increased cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in cells. This increased cAMP in your cells results in broad range of physiological and biochemical effects including, prevents platelet aggregation, broncho-dilation, anti-glaucoma, reduces blood pressure, and reduces inflamation.

According to the article found at Vitamin Research Products, scientists at the Penn State University College of Medicine have found that many obese people have lower than normal cAMP production in their cells. Along with that a recent small study seemed to confirm this finding. In this study six overweight women took forskolin twice daily for eight weeks. At the end of those eight weeks, participants lost an average of ten pounds, and reduced their percentage body fat by almost 8%. Based on both of these findings indicate that forskolin may be a safe, effective adjunct to losing weight and maintaining a normal body composition especially for those with impaired cAMP production.

New evening Bodysculpting workout session added at Nutri-Sport Clive

As hundreds of clients have experienced, we have been offering Bodysculpting workouts at Nutri-Sport for a few years now.  We are extremely excited to be able to bring back an evening session time slot beginning February 14th!

Bodysculpting is unlike any of the other “fitness challenges” out there.  It really is more like personal training rather than group fitness.  As the video below shows, it is small groups (no more than 10 people) and our trainers (who have college degrees in health plus certifications) lead the workouts.  The training sessions are always different, focusing on all aspects of fitness to make it fun, challenging, but most important, effective on helping you look and feel your absolute best!

We want this to be a lifestyle change so one of the areas of focus are nutrition as well.  At the beginning of the program, we educate participants what, when and why they should be eating.  Throughout the 9 week program, we monitor their nutrition and make sure results are being achieved.

The next sessions begin on February 14th. The evening session is Tuesday/Thursday at 6:30 PM and Saturday morning at 7 or 8 AM. The morning sessions is Monday/Wednesday/Friday at either 5 or 6 AM, plus Saturday morning. There is also a noon session on Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Cost on the evening 9-week session is $225, the morning and noon session is $299.

Bodysculpting results, what it’s all about!

Any chance we get to brag up our clients we absolutely do!

We have mentioned Dee before but she has continued to progress.  Since beginning our Bodysculpting program in March she has lost 78 pounds and reduced her bodyfat from 32.7% to 13.8%.  Dee has also lost 27.75 inches around her hips and waist, reduced her thighs by 11 inches total.

In addition to making physical changes, her diet is improved considerably and we are working with her to continue to increase her metabolism and monitoring her intake with food logs.

Bodysculpting training program starts in 2 weeks!

We have been running a unique program at the Nutri-Sport training facility for a few years now.  It’s called Bodysculpting and is a unique program to the Des Moines metro.

What sets this apart really is that it is more like personal training than group fitness.  Our studio is fully equipped but we limit our workouts to no more than 12 people at a time.  This allows for effective use of space, plus the ability to provide more supervision, motivation and instruction from our certified trainers to the participants.

Other aspects that make this a unique training program is the inclusion of training techniques that you can learn to do on your own and incorporate this into your lifestyle.  After all, we want this to be more than just a “transformation challenge” but rather a lifestyle change for good.  Additionally, we monitor the nutrition of our participants and make corrections/recommendations to ensure they are getting results.

Workouts are always different, plus they are intense and fun!  Typically, the first 40-45 minutes are spent doing weight training with the last 20-15 seconds focused on raising your metabolism and getting the heart rate going for fat loss and conditioning.  Here is a video that gives some additional information on the program:

We track progress and each individual works to their own level of fitness and strength.  Participants are successful at achieving their goals whether bodyfat loss, get healthy, strength gain, muscle gain or a combination of these.

Research finds popular diets fail to address proper nutrition

With the American population as a whole fighting obesity, plus with the popularity of reality TV shows like “The Biggest Loser”, main stream diet programs such as the Atkins and South Beach diet are commonly heard.

While there is no question that people have found success with these, there are some issues with such plans.  A recent study in the Journal of Intl Sports Nutrition discovered that these plans are deficient in micronutrients, which can lead to dangerous and debilitating diseases.  Read study here.

In addition to this, we feel that often these diets tend to be done in an aggressive manner, creating the “crash” diet scenario, which then leads often into a “yo-yo” pattern, as the individual has not learned healthy lifestyle habits but rather a temporary or quick fix (see client testimonial here).

With our nutrition coaching and meal plans, we work with our clients to make these lifestyle habits and eat healthy.  This is for long-term results, plus proper health and nourishment.  We spend a great deal of time digging into each individual to make a plan that is effective, yet fits into their lifestyle.  The plans also are food-based, with only the “foundational” supplements such as a multi-vitamin, essential fatty acids like fish oil and a good quality protein highly recommended.

Whey Gourmet

This popular whey protein has been special ordered (which we are always happy to do) for many of our customers, so we decided to bring in the line!  The main reason it is so popular is not only because of the quality, but also because of the TASTE!!  Some of the flavors include: peanut butter chocolate, orangesicle, raspberry cream along with creamy vanilla and chocolate.

Fruit & Greens PhytoFoods
Most of us don’t get the amount of fruits and vegetables throughout the day that we should.  This new product from NOW Foods provides the body with everything it could want!  Full of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fiber, Fruits & Greens not only keep you healthy but also maintain proper pH levels.  A tasty berry powder that you can simply mix into your beverage, shake or foods.

One of the most important meals of the day is your pre-workout meal.  This is what fuels the fire during your training.  While a shake or a whole meal is nice, sometimes you need something for on the go.  This new bar is exactly that!  Tastes great and most importantly, works!  Not only does it fuel you through intense workouts, you don’t burp it up during it either!

Tren and other prohormones
First, we do carry Tren and other prohormones, but we do NOT push them or sell them lightly.  These are strong and should be used with caution only by those who are at the appropriate level of training, age and conditioning.  The government is cracking down on these substances and many have been discontinued by the manufacturer.  If you are interested in these and would like unbiased information, please come in and see Ryan.

Training tip: Heavy/light
As Ryan was training for the USA, he continued to progress in strength, which was a key in keeping his muscle mass while losing bodyfat.  One of the principals he used was combining a blend of heavy and light exercises.  Compound exercises are those involving two limbs (such as bench press, squats, deadlifts, rows, shoulder press).  When performing these lifts, shoot for a heavier weight that stimulates strength and muscle growth, which would be in the 5-8 rep range.  After starting out your workout with one of these basic exercises, finish the rest with more isolation exercises (such as DB flys, walking lunges, 1 arm rows, lateral raises) in the 8-12 rep range to stimulate growth.  By doing both ranges, you will not only continue to progress in strength, but also in muscle tone.  For more tips or a training program, come in and see one of our certified trainers.

Nutrition tip: Fiber is your friend
This is something that we believe everyone knows but it sometimes help to be reminded.  Fiber is something that you want in abundance in your diet for many reasons.  It’s good for your health (especially for cholesterol and digestion) but it’s also good for your physique.  By keeping your fiber content high, it slows down absorption and digestion of foods.  This does two things.  First, it keeps your blood sugar/insulin levels low, which is what you want to optimize fat loss.  Second, by slowing digestion, you stay full longer, which allows you to stay satisfied in between meals which will be a great help in a calorie deficit diet.  An easy way to do this is by adding psyllium husk powder to your foods and/or shakes.  Of course, eating “brown” carbs or veggies in your meals is essential too.  For more tips or a customized nutrition plan, come in and talk to Ryan.Supplement tip: Fight “Flu” season
While you know to eat healthy, wash your hands and to cover you mouth, another way to stay healthy is through proper supplementation.  We recommend to stay healthy and keep your immune system in top shape the following: Multi-vitamin, vitamin C (500 mg), vitamin E (400 IU), Omega 3/6/9, and alpha lipoic acid.  These are all high in anti-oxidants and ensure your body is cranking at 100%!

Recipe: Protein Pumpkin Pie
This has been a favorite each year so we thought we would repost it.  This makes 2 pies
8 oz fat free cream cheese, 2 Tbsp skim milk, tub of fat free cool whip, 2 low fat graham cracker crusts, 2 cups skim milk, 1 can pumpkin, 2 pkg jello fat/sugar free vanilla instant pudding, 2 scoops protein powder (we suggest quad pro or UMP), 1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/8 tsp ginger

Mix cream cheese & 2 Tbsp milk in large bowl w/wire whisk until smooth.  Stir in whipped topping, then spread on bottom of crusts.  Pour 1 cup milk into bowl, add pumpkin, pudding mix, protein powder & spices, mix well.  Spread this over cream cheese layer.

Refrigerate 4 hours or until set, garnish with whipped topping, You can either share the second pie with a friend or cut recipe in half.

Bodysculpting sessions start every 9 weeks.  Workouts are on MWF and Sat.  Class size is small (limit to 8) so they fill fast.  If you want to get in on the action, stop by soon to get your spot.  Cost is $275, times are 5 or 6 AM and noon.  Besides killer workouts, good nutritional habits are reinforced with a focus on education and accountability.

Bodysculpting starts in less than 2 weeks!

On July 27th, the next 9 week Bodysculpting session begins! If you are looking for a way to shake up your workouts or are in a rut (or know someone who need to start working out), this program is it!

The workouts are 4 days per week (MWFS), focusing on weight training (free weights, cables and machines) for muscle/strength gains and cardio/abs (plyometrics/”boot-camp” style drills/equipment) focusing on increasing the metabolism and burning calories.  This workout program is designed in such a way to help people keep/build muscle and lose the bodyfat!!

In only 4 weeks on the current session:

Felicia has 5″ on her waist/hips and lost 4.3% bodyfat, with a total fat loss of 11.5lbs, while maintaining her muscle tissue!
